Laser Hair Removal: Stopping Hair Growth and Getting the Results You Want

Laser Hair Removal: Stopping Hair Growth and Getting the Results You Want

If you added up the time and money you spend on getting rid of unwanted body hair, we’re sure that the results would be eye-opening. Whether you shave daily or wax every few weeks, you’re tired of chasing endeavors that only deliver fleeting and often unsatisfactory results.

Our team here at Los Gatos Dermatology, led by Dr. Bruce Saal, wants to spotlight a much better way to get rid of unwanted body hair — laser hair removal.

In the following, we explore the many benefits of laser hair removal and how you can ditch the razor, cancel your waxing appointments, and enjoy silky smooth skin with minimal effort.

Going straight to the source

When you shave, you’re merely breaking the hair at the shaft, which means that new hair will quickly breach the surface of your skin again, often the next day.

Waxing does go a step further by removing the hair from the follicle beneath your skin, which allows you a little more time before the hair reappears.

But with laser hair removal, we’re able to destroy the follicles in which your hair originates. To do this, we use the Candela GentleMAX® system to deliver bursts of light energy into your hair follicles, which absorb the energy as heat. This heat then disrupts the follicle, preventing it from producing more hair.

A thorough approach

When you undergo laser hair removal, we recommend a series of treatments. The exact number depends on the size and number of your treatment areas.

We also spread these treatments out so that we’re sure to tackle all of the follicles in your target areas. This is important because, at any given time, your hair follicles are in one of three stages:

By spreading out your treatments, we catch all of the follicles when they become active, ensuring that we deliver comprehensive results.

Long-lasting results

While results vary from one person to the next, most of our patients enjoy months, if not years, of hair-free results. When the hair does grow back, it’s often finer and lighter in color.

Safe to use almost everywhere

With laser hair removal, we can tackle unwanted body hair in most of the places where you used to shave or wax, including your:

The only place where we don’t use laser hair removal is around your eyes.
